in the sunset shadows
our legs stretch long
all the way to the horizon
with only our small heads
leaning over the edge
while our thin frail arms
wave across the length of the land
trying to grasp hold of something
something solid
and still we go sliding on
and when the sun slips below the sky
we are swallowed up
a single splash in a sea of dark
we sink beneath the rolling night.
